Did you know the average cost of a real Christmas tree is on the rise? According to this article, the average cost of a real Christmas tree is $90…and going up yearly! Whoa!
Although I love the scent of a real tree, my pocketbook screams at me if I even think of making that purchase. I can’t justify the cost of a yearly real tree when I’m working at keeping my holiday expenses in check. And yes, I’m always looking at ways to stay in my budget during the holiday season.

A one-time artificial tree purchase can last you up to 10 years, so even if you splurge on a pricey faux tree, you will still save a good bit of money in the long run.
But this list proves that you don’t have to spend a ton to have a great looking, long-lasting Christmas tree…and just think, you can put all of that saved money back into your Christmas budget.
For much of my adult life, I bought a real tree solely because my parents kept the same ugly PLASTIC artificial Christmas tree throughout my entire childhood. That tree was terrible compared to the beautiful artificial trees we have available now. I felt like I was missing out because of this tree we kept in a box in the shed. Back then, I didn’t understand money and finances and definitely didn’t know the price of a real tree.
But when I decided to make Christmas debt-free, I purchased a fake tree…and you know what? It didn’t affect the merriment of the season at all! In fact, I was overjoyed not having to deal with falling needles and maintaining the proper water level.
I absolutely love my tree and doubt I will ever go back to a real tree. Let’s face it, I’m a cheapskate and love saving money. *wink*
